Next Course Magazine

Next Course is a publication that highlights business strategies, products and innovations in the foodservice sector. Content ranges from hiring new staff, food trends, recipes, food cost savings and highlighting chefs and restaurants in the field. The print version is between 56-64 pages. The audience is main-street restaurants and small chains throughout the US and Canada.

Objective: Continue to evolve the design and content of the quarterly printed publication. Develop content that is captivating to the reader and can be used as a sales tool by Gordon Food Service team members to engage new and existing business partners.

Role: Art Director, Designer

Execution: As the lead designer and art director my job was to take the copy docs from the writing team and create a complete publication. I performed all typesetting, image selection and purchasing, graphic creation, and layout. I also worked with our culinary team and an outside photographer to Art Direct all the culinary-focused imagery. Often my role would also include creating brand-related advertisements for our private labels.

Impact: This tool allowed our sales team to have new touchpoints every quarter. Information was also cross-utilized in blog posts, social media, and customer emails.
